Difference between Traditional and Projection Cyclorama: A White Cyc is special stage background or background that encloses or encircles almost all of the stage so special visible effects can be used for varied film media, or live action on the stage. The color white is employed for the cyclorama as it can be voided out or replaced with a virtual background.
The White Cyc has 2 main functions: 1) As a masking tool to stop the fans from seeing into the back stage area. Generally the back wall is hidden from view. It provides a stunning effective and suitable background for the production. The white surfaced cyc today is still being use as a full-stage material, and remains in a well stock theater’s inventory. 2) Gives a surface for straightforward illumination to create or enhance the scene’s mood, and when the white surfaced cyc is illuminate is a standard background for: dance, opera, and drama. Currently there are 2 types or styles of White Cyc backgrounds a Traditional, and Projection Cyclorama. Traditional white surfaced cyc: what’s the tradition white surfaced cyc made with? The white cyclorama is made from the standard cotton or kinds of materials like muslin with a semi-opaque textile surface. The traditional White Cyc has many challenges that the user has to handle to have a successful visual effect. These challenges of the tradition white cyc are:
1) The Simi-Opaque fabric with all new lighting technology still has issues with lighting the front surface causing reflections to appear with hard edges and scallops causing Problems with certain visible background effects like the semblance of sky on the stage. For smooth lighting of convention white cyc needs regular spacing and coloration. The lighting must be projected on the front of the white cyc to stop the audience from seeing the source of lighting. 2) Care must be taken to keep the cyclorama free from mud since it’s hard to clean. 3) If the cyclorama has been in storage it must be hung up and steam for a period to get rid of wrinkles.
Projection white cyc (Procyc) : The projection cyclorama still supplies the obligatory masking task. This is the sole feature it has in common with the standard cyclorama. Difference between the projection cyclorama and the standard cyclorama is the benefits of the projection cyclorama.
The projection cyclorama material is a transparent medium that diffuses light through it like dyes in water. This prohibits hard lines and scallops from occurring when illuminate. The projection cyclorama can be illuminated right from the front, the rear, or both front and back at the same time. Light fixtures can be place directly in front of the projection cyclorama without out showing the spectators the light source.
